Biography
René Onclin is a born and raised Amsterdam painter, draftsman and textile artist who uses nature and the built environment as inspiration for his work. The subjects he chooses often have a meaning for that are often linked to personal memories. Amsterdam whit all its facets is also regularly his studio. He takes a seat and records what he sees and experiences in his impression of the environment. Much of his embroidered work is a translation and futher eloboration of his drawings and watercolors.
After learning the basics of sculpting from the sculptor Nico Onkenhout in his younger years in the late 1970s, he subsequently became a teacher of Crafts and drawing in 1983. His own creativity and visual capabilities have always remained a necessary and important aspect during his career in education. Now after his retirement in 2023 the circle seems complete and he can fully focus on his art work.
